Following Lichfield’s superb 3-2 victory against NFK Burbage last weekend,
the squad travel to promotion seekers Uttoxeter Town. The opponents
currently sit in 5th place, six points behind Lichfield but with three games in
hand so it is important that boys keep this winning run going on Saturday.
Manager Jamie Hawkins has pointed out the importance of this fixture at
the weekend, “we’ve got to turn up, Uttoxeter are a very organised side
who compete very well.” The players should be riled up for this one as they
look to send a message to the rest of the league.
Sitting second, he believes his side can still improve, “we are still striving to
click in to top gear but the players and staff are working hard to find the key
to us making that additional step.” With this in mind the club are showing no
signs of fatigue and are developing as the season has gone on with still
more to come.
“We go in to every game believing we have the squad capable of beating
anyone on our day, this game is no different.”
Hawkins is glad to have the points on the board with all the bad weather
that has been going on recently. “There is an added pressure when
chasing a points total regardless of how many games in hand you may
have.” If the club continue to focus on themselves, they have a good shout
of being right up there at the end of the season.
As we come in to the Christmas period, games start to come thick and fast
and changes will have to be made in order to keep everyone fit over this
busy time. “Hopefully more chances will start to go in for us and help
continue to pick up positive results.” If Hawkins’ men start taking those
chances and solidify that backline, then they really can put pressure on the
team above.
This time of the year will be a defining one for the boys and we can all hope
the club will still be right at the top end of the table after this hectic period.
