Lichfield City returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Uttoxeter Town.
Lichfield went into the fixture knowing a win would take them back up to fourth in the Midland Football League Division One.
The home side started brightly with an early opportunity for Ryan Slinn, but his effort was comfortably saved.
Minutes later Max Black squandered a golden chance, with his shot flying over the bar from close range.
Uttoxeter had the chance to break the deadlock with a one-on-one but the shot flew agonisingly wide of Adam Jenkins’ goal.
Just before half-time Black put Lichfield in front with a smart finish. The linesman had flagged for offside but was overruled by the referee.
In the second half the home side were in the hunt for a second goal and Tom Brown’s looping header was tipped away miraculously by the Uttoxeter goalkeeper to keep the deficit to just one.
Jenkins was keeping Uttoxeter at bay with a couple of fine acrobatic saves to deny the away side a leveller, as the pressure started to pile on Lichfield.
The points were eventually sealed when Brad Rolston tucked home a rebound following Brown’s saved effort.
It was a deserved victory for Lichfield, who face Rocester next Saturday.
