A Jack Edwards double and a Max Black header see Lichfield City through to the third round of the Staffordshire Senior Cup.

In what was a tight local derby between City and opponents Chasetown FC, Lichfield were the better team on a cold Wednesday night at the Trade Trye Stadium and their quality shone through.

The game was a tense affair to begin with, with Chasetown producing the best moment in the opening half an hour, when after 26 minutes a corner was headed on goal by Lewis Riley Stewart, but his effort was easy for Lichfield goalkeeper James Beeson to hold on to.

After 33 minutes the deadlock was broken by Jack Edwards, the tricky winger drove inside and unleashed a left footed effort which took a huge deflection of a Chasetown FC defender and looped past goalkeeper Adam Jenkins, the keeper had no chance with the massive deflection.

Edwards nearly made it 2-0 before half-time from a freekick about 25 yards out, his dipping freekick took a bounce and seem to bamboozle Jenkins in goal and struck the post. Chasetown FC were reduced to ten men before half time when Joey Butlin appeared to kick out at defender Jamie Elkes, the referee after a deliberation with his officials sent off Chasetown’s number 9.

Lichfield did make it 2-0 through another Edwards strike, this time it was a more of an easier finish than the first.

Tom Brown played a fantastic through ball to Edwards on the right, who was through on goal. Edwards took a deft touch past Jenkins, and the number 7 had an easy finish into an empty net and put City well on their way to the third round of the Cup.

The third goal was finished by right back Max Black, in what was a surprise goal for the marauding right-back.

Edwards turned provider this time, with a free kick from the left, it evaded everyone and eventually fell to Black at the back post who had an easy finish at the back post.

Edwards influential throughout and was awarded the man of the match for his stellar performance.

Lichfield City will be hoping they can continue their good run of form when they take on Boldmere St Michaels this Saturday at 3pm.
