Lichfield City are through to the semi-final of the JW Hunt Cup after an 85th minute Max Dixon tap-in after a superb Jack Edwards cross from the right sends City into the semi-final. OJM Black Country put up a good fight for a team from the division below, but the quality of the home side proved the difference.
Lichfield City took the lead barely three minutes into the game when a Joe Haines corner was flicked in at the near post by striker Luke Keen, who had an easy finish on his debut to give Ivor Green’s men a 1-0 lead early on.
OJM equalised barely 5 minutes later when a dinked cross from Joe Fitzpatrick was not cleared properly, the ball was in the air for a while before a flick on led to striker Richardo Richards scoring a tap in, he couldn’t miss after poor defending from City.
One soon became two for the away side who were in dreamland when a deflected Richards effort inside the penalty area took a big deflection and wrong-footed James Beeson in the Lichfield goal to give the underdogs the 2-1 lead after 10 minutes.
Jonathan Gould had a chance to equalise midway through the first half when Luke Childs jinxed past the sliding OJM defender and he laid it off to Gould, who sliced his effort just wide of the far post.
Lichfield did eventually equalise through a brilliant goal by Jack Edwards. Childs played the ball across to Edwards on the left-hand side, he stood up his man before beating him. He cut inside and unleashed a low drive past Luke Handley in goal, a typical Jack Edwards finish to draw the home side level after 33 minutes.
Going into the second half Lichfield had the better of the opportunities, Childs was sent in by Joe Haines, he controlled it brilliantly, skipped past his man but dragged his shot wide of the far post after some brilliant play in the build-up. Childs again was involved he slipped in Max Dixon, the substitute for Luke Keen at half-time but his shot was well kept out by Handley at his near post.
The winner for the home side came from Jack Edwards on the right-hand side, he beat his man and fired in a fantastic cross which was smashed into the roof of the net by Max Dixon, for his first goal since his return from injury and his 15th of the season.
The win sees City through to the JW Hunt semi-final where they will take on Lye Town.
