Lichfield City made club history with a comfortable 3-0 victory against higher-grade opposition to reach the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup for the first time.

A composed performance from Jay Hawkins’ men saw them lead their Midlands League Premier Division opponents Haughmond FC 1-0 at the break thanks to a long-range effort from Andy Davis.

Further goals from Danny Thurstance and Dan Sheppard rounded off the victory in the second half at a baking hot City Ground.

The victory means Lichfield will enter unchartered territory in the world’s oldest cup competition. City now await the draw for the next round to learn their next opponents, with the tie to be played on Saturday 7 September.

It is back to league action for Lichfield on Bank Holiday Monday, with Heath Hayes the visitors to Brownsfield Road for a 3pm kick-off.
