Up to four teams will be promoted from Midland League Division One in 2019/20, league officials have confirmed.

Under a Football Association restructure of the non-league pyramid, the top four sides in Division One, which is at Step 6 of the pyramid, will be eligible for promotion to Step 5.

In a statement, the Midland League said: “There will be significant changes in the non-league structure at the end of the coming season.

“Two of our traditional feeder leagues, West Midlands Regional League and East Midlands Counties League have lost their Step 6 status, and this implies that the make-up of our top two divisions next season will be very different.

“The top four clubs from all Step 6 leagues… will be promoted to Step 5. The bottom two clubs [in Step 6] will be relegated to Step 7.”

Lichfield City finished in fourth place in 2018/19 and boss Jay Hawkins has set his sights on a top-three finish this time around.
